Author Susan Page, founder of the San Miguel Writers’ Conference, says about San Miguel de Allende that it has long been a mecca for social creatives – writers, painters, musicians, poets, & philosophers. Maybe, Susan says, it’s the crisp mountain air. Maybe it’s the thermal pools infused with natural lithium. Maybe it’s the Dalai Lama’s blessing.
Or maybe it’s because we know how to throw great fiestas!
That last claim is a certainty, as Susan has perfected the art of punctuating the conference with a end-of-week fiesta that gives participants a chance to catch their breath and let their hair down. This Friday’s grand party was no exception!
Of course, writers like Laura Esquivel of Like Water for Chocolate fame, and Yann Martel, author of the recent big-screen success Life of Pi, help draw authors and fans from across the globe, bumping registration to over 300 full-conference attendees and over 900 participants at some events.
But the fiesta always wins bonus points for popularity, thanks to fiesta volunteer organizers like Carole Schor and others who expend hundreds of hours ensuring a successful conference. Kudos to them, and here’s to a successful 2015 conference, already in the works!
