If Carlos Slim is no longer lauded as the Richest Man on Planet Earth, at least he’ll be remembered as being the proud owner of some of Manhattan’s choicest residential real estate.
Soly Halabi, the 30-year-old broker of Venture Capital Properties, specializes in off-marker listings and shot to fame in 2010 after closing two deals with Mexico’s richest citizen, the most noted of which being Slim’s purchase of the $44 million Duke Semans mansion at 1009 Fifth Avenue, a rather tony address even for jaded Manhattanites.
So what’s Soly advice for doing deals with the big boys? He says “you need time and luck on your side, because in New York City real estate, you’re swimming with sharks, and they won’t hesitate to eat you.”
Frankly, Soly, that’s why we love marketing homes for sale in San Miguel de Allende: there are no sharks in our landlocked paradise. Oh, and the best mansions here sell for far less than $44 million!
